WWJ Newsradio 950 and GreatStuff are proud sponsors of the 2008 Birmingham Fine Art Festival. This event is scheduled for May 10 and 11 at Shain Park in downtown Birmingham. Admission is free and open to the public. The festival opens each day at 10:00 a.m. and closes on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center produces the festival with support from community partner, the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber.
The festival will host a youth art competition, to promote the Art Festival locally. Details of the “What does it mean to go green?” themed competition to follow.
The juried art event features more than 200 artists in a variety of media from all over the U.S and Canada. It attracts nearly 80,000 during the weekend. In addition to art for purchase, the event features hands-on intergenerational activities and artist demonstrations.
The event is traditionally held on Mothers Day weekend, offering mothers and those wanting to fete and spoil her the special opportunity to choose works of art as gifts. Offerings vary from all art forms including jewelry or wearable fiber art to hand blown glass or paintings. Several Mother’s Day brunches and special events are held in Birmingham over the weekend, which are ideally combined with a visit to the festival.
