Two Michigan defense suppliers win awards: Janel's Industries Inc. of Cassopolis and Networks Enterprises Inc. of New Hudson were among the award recipients when the Defense Logistics Agency honored 23 industry partners, customers and individuals Feb.12 with its Business Alliance Awards. Janel's Industries received the Outstanding Readiness Support Award in the service disabled, veteran-owned small business category. The award recognizes businesses that have provided extraordinary customer support, service or product directly to a crisis situation. Networks received the Innovative Business Performer of the Year Award in the service disabled, veteran-owned small business category. The award recognizes businesses that have undertaken risks associated with innovative business practices such as shared production, electronic commerce, prime vendor and quick response. The company also demonstrated overall excellence in superior product quality, on-time delivery, superior customer service, reliability, dependability, consistency and accuracy. Warren man wins IEEE award: Kevin Taylor of Warren has been selected to receive an IEEE-USA Professional Achievement Award. Taylor, a member of the IEEE-USA Career & Workforce Policy Committee, is being honored “for conceiving and coordinating the Future Energy Technology’s Employment Challenge career program in Detroit” in October 2006. The event drew 150 attendees to the NextEnergy Center, Michigan’s alternative energy accelerator. Leonard J. Bond, IEEE Region 6 director-elect and a Laboratory Fellow at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Wash., was the keynote speaker. Bond spoke about the U.S. energy system, energy technology trends and the challenges and opportunities U.S. organizations face in meeting their needs for a talented energy workforce. Taylor will be honored with 21 other award recipients during the IEEE-USA Annual Meeting at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Indianapolis on April 26. Taylor is the IEEE Southeast Michigan Section technical chapter chairman for the IEEE Power Engineering, Industry Applications, Industrial Electronics and Power Electronics societies.
