NLM makes Inner City 100: The Detroit third party logistics provider NLM last week announced it had earned a spot in the Inner City 100, a list of the fastest growing inner city companise in the nation. This is the fourth year overall that NLM has been named to the Inner City 100. The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, a national non-profit research organization and Inner City 100 award sponsor, and Inc., one of the leading national business magazines for fast-growing companies, ranked NLM 58th on this year’s list announced last week at the 10th Annual Inner City 100 Summit in Boston. NLM was selected as an Inner City 100 company from nearly 7,000 entrants vying for a spot as one of the nation’s fastest-growing companies located in America’s inner cities. The annual list celebrates entrepreneurship and business success, showcasing companies thriving in urban areas across the country and creating jobs, income and wealth for the inner city community. Wayne State prof goes one for four with Sports Science at Emmys: Sports Science won one out of the four Emmys it was nominated for at the 29th Annual Emmy Awards for Sports held in New York City. Wayne State University Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering Cynthia Bir is lead scientist and the only female engineer on the set. She started her career as a research nurse, earned her PhD in biomedical engineering at WSU, and joined the faculty in 2000. In the laboratory, her research examines the effectiveness of non-lethal weapons and most recently, the injury mechanism and treatment of head trauma caused by the pressure wave produced by roadside bombs in Iraq. Sport Science was up for four Emmys, including Technical Achievement Award. The team consisted of Bir and Base Productions Executive Producers Mickey Stern and John Brenkus. Besides setting up and analyzing the data, Bir and Brenkus appear in the on-air shots with the athletes. The show won the Emmy for Outstanding Graphic Design.
