Airport Open House

Southfield (WWJ)  -- It\'s out with the old and in with the new at Metro Airport.

A community open house takes place Saturday from 1-5 p.m.  People coming to the North Terminal event  must park at Middlebelt and Goddard and take free shuttle to airport.

The open house will offer the community a chance to see the new North Terminal before it officially opens to travelers September 17th.

Airport executives say the fun-filled family event will feature various hi-tech interactive displays including flight simulators, Rock Band, Dance Dance Revolution, and Dancing Heads.

Although the event is free, reservations are recommended.  Click here for more information regarding this community open house, and to register.

The new $400-million-plus North Terminal, will be Detroit\'s home to Air Canada, American Airlines, AirTran Airways, Frontier Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways, USA 3000, and charter airlines.

Nearly 3,200 construction workers had a part in building the terminal.

The North Terminal will replace the Smith and Berry terminals.
