Life After Loss: A Journey Through Grief


Life After Loss: A Journey Through Grief, a six-session grief class for people who have experienced the loss of a loved one, will be offered at the First United Methodist Church in Birmingham starting November 17, 2009. The group will explore the various stages of grief and the various techniques for coping with grief, working through grief, and even growing through grief.  Click on the title above for more details.

November: Events For Seniors In Farmington Hills


The City of Farmington Hills offers dozens of programs for area adults age 50 and better at the Center for Active Adults, located in the Costick Center on 11 Mile Road between Middlebelt and Inkster. The Center is open Monday - Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Lunch is served daily, $2.75 for ages 60 and better, $5 for under 60. Click the title above for details.

Macomb County Nursing Home Diversion Program


The Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B), in partnership with the Macomb County Department of Senior Citizen Services, has launched a pilot program to offer seniors who reside in Macomb County, and who wish to remain independent and living in the community, access to professional help to find community resources that best fit their individual needs.

An independent living consultant is available to talk with the senior and their family to discuss resources including personal care, adult day services, available insurance benefits, and other services to help the senior remain living in their home.  To be eligible for the program an individual must meet the following criteria: age 60 or older, requiring assistance with daily care needs and residing in Macomb County.  For more information call the AAA 1-B at 1 (800) 852-7795.

Weekly: Drop-in Bowling for Seniors


Classic Lanes in Rochester Hills offers drop-in bowing for seniors Tuesdays at 9 a.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m.   $5 for three games of bowling, shoe rental, coffee, cookies and two mystery games.  Located at 2145 Avon Industrial.  For more information call (248) 852-9100.

Study of Remarried Spouse Caregivers


University of Michigan researchers are conducting a study on the Alzheimer’s caregiving experiences of spouses who are in a late-life remarriage (‘second marriage’). Researchers are seeking to recruit 125 remarried caregivers whosespouse has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Adult Caregiver Support Group


Note from the organizers: "We believe that while we cannot solve everyone’s challenges, we can provide a support system.  Support groups offer people the opportunity to be with others who are facing similar struggles."

This group meets on the first Wednesday of every month from 7:30-9 p.m. at New Hope – A Unitarian Universalist Congregation located at 57885 Grand River, New Hudson just west of Milford Road . Caregiver Support Group


Many people are troubled by the changed in their lives when disability strikes home. A caregivers support group addressed the concerns of those caring for an ill or disabled family member or friend.  The group meets the first Thursday of every month in the Beaumont Administration Building -- Private Dining Room, 3601 W. Thirteen Mile Rd. in Royal Oak.
