A Poet And Ya Don't Know It!



Poetry writing can be a creative outlet, but for some teens it can seem intimidating.  One way to encourage your middle schooler to try out poetry writing is to use a strategy called “found poetry.” In found poetry, writers use the words of others, but arrange these words in their own way. 

You can make this activity fun by using those magnetic word kits you can purchase at many stores.  Put the words on your refrigerator and take turns making poems for each other!  A creative variation on this is to have teens create their own word bank, based in their own interests.
