Southfield (WWJ) -- We've often spoken about the benefits to cancer patients of being able to talk about a diagnosis such as breast cancer with others. But, what about a family member who may also be the caregiver? Who's around to help that individual navigate those bumps in the road which lay ahead?
Say, for example, yours is a one car family. Mom needs to get to treatment and dad needs to use the car to get to work. Well, the American Cancer Society may be able to help through its “Road to Recovery” program, a transportation service to and from treatment.
“I Can Cope” is another A.C.S. program for patients, caregivers or family members. It provides educational information designed to shatter myths and provide facts about cancer.
The National Cancer Institute is another good source of information. On it's website, you'll find explanations written for the lay-person on cancer-related issues such as pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, nutrition, nausea and sexuality. You can also learn what's involved in the treatment your loved one has been prescribed.
