Detroit (WWJ)  -- A group called Detroiters for Justice gathered at Detroit's Antheneum Hotel in Greektown Thursday morning to rally in support of Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.  Members say they wanted to speak out against Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick over his public comments against Worthy.

Spokesman, Rev. Dr. Samuel White of Friendship Baptist says Kilpatrick's comments were disrespectful and he should "end the mudslinging, name calling and bring back civility to the office."

On Tuesday, Mayor Kilpatrick said Worthy's criminal case was "going to hell."  The mayor and his former chief of staff Christine Beatty are facing perjury, misconduct in office and obstruction of justice charges related to text messages and testimony at a police Whistleblower Act trial. 

Rev. White added that "there are many clergy, pastors, and business leaders who are upset  about what's going on in the city."  And he says, they are speaking out in their own way at churches, in the community and with the recall effort.

Also at the rally, community leader Helen Moore read a statement from Detroit City Councilman Kwame Kenyatta.  In it Kenyatta says the mayor shouldn't criticize Worthy for doing her job.  And says, he believe's "that it is the mayor's defense of this case that is going to hell, mainly because the case itself is indefensible."

Meanwhile, 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles could decide to release text messages related to the case Friday.  Worthy would like more text messages to be unsealed from the court file.  Attorneys for the mayor are fighting to keep the messages sealed.
