Detroit (WWJ)  -- Television personality Greg Mathis is reiterating his call for Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to resign in the wake of the text message scandal.

Mathis, a Detroit native known for his courtroom show that bears his name, is working on a project called, "Mean Streets".  He told WWJ's citybeat reporter Vickie Thomas that Kilpartrick is on Mathis' list of people to interview.

Mathis said, "That's what I'm going to ask the Mayor about.  Does he think that the current controversy will cause any distraction?  I'm not gonna drill him on the merits of these allegations, I'm not even gonna go there.  I'm just going to ask him, 'Does he think there's a distraction in moving the city forward?'  He has said there isn't."

"He should be allowed due-process. If he chooses not to do so, he has every right not to leave, and we should all respect that.  But in my personal opinion, I think it would be best for the city and the region if the controversy is ended as quickly as possible.  And I think the best way for that to occur is if he either took a break, or left all together." said Mathis.

Mathis is concerned that new businesses will shy away from setting up shop in Detroit because of Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's legal battle stemming from the text-messaging scandal.  He says some business leaders from out of town would likely be discouraged by such a controversy.
